The Wall Street Journal- 2008

"Posting resumes on job sites should be the smallest part of your search, because you can rarely land professional positions that way. Nearly two-thirds of applicants find work through networking".

"Smart strategies can revive a stalled job search & boost your spirits. The key; treat your hunt like a business problem. Package yourself based upon a frank reassessment of your strengths & weaknesses. BUILD YOUR PERSONAL BRAND"!

Figure out what sets you apart from many others with similar skills & repackage/network the "product" (you) accordingly. Is your resume a chronological obituary? Does it "sell" or simply "tell"? Do you know how to expand your network?

Join & attend networking groups of all types; professional, alumni, etc.

ExecuNet-Executive Job Market Report-2008

"70% of executives find career options through networking"! "There has been a surge in online networking services, but only 37% of executives never or rarely use them, and another 40% only use them sometimes. Technology may help you identify target contacts or organize connections, but the human touch prevails."

"In a separate ExecuNet survey about reputation management & Internet presence, 86% of executive recruiters say they routinely scour online sources (a candidate's URL, executive networks, etc.) for information that goes beyond a candidate's resume. Nearly 7 in 10 search firms say that a candidate's prospects improve considerably when additional positive information is found online."
